The player should be reminded to not stop the cue ball, but instead let the cue ball stop rolling on it's own as the miscue could lead to an illegal break. If the shooter scratches on an illegal break, the break alternates to the opponent.

If a player repeatedly stops the cue ball on a miscue/bad break after a reminder, it is considered a sportsmanship violation and the opponent should turn in an official protest form describing the situation to APA.

There are 16 replies, with the last one on 03/10/2010 at 08:23:11 AM by rvsherrill
Quote:
Thank you for the clarification Kim.

quote:

First off with respect to being a captain, there is now a tournament to honor the players that take on this role: Captain/Co-captain Tournament.

With respect to keeping your team active the next session with at least 4 members active on the same team, that is a National Rule. It isn't an attempt to pad APA's pockets as you suggest. First off, if you play in the city tournament and win the slot in the National Team Championships in Las Vegas, your team has to be active to be eligible to compete in the NTC's. It would be kind of pointless to allow you to play the city tournament and then tell you that you can't go to Vegas because you didn't keep your team eligible. In addition, there is a large payout for winning the city tournament that all teams contribute to with weekly league play. Teams continuing to play is a necessity in ensuring the payouts remain where they are and that the National payouts remain where they are - weekly team fees contribute to both of these funds. In addition, our local APA has to maintain a certain number of teams actively participating in each format to keep our slot count and ability to qualify teams for the National Team Championships. Not requiring teams to remain active to compete in the city tournament could result in a drop in team count that could in turn cause our league to lose one or more of our slots for the National Team Championships. Our local APA has worked really hard to increase the team count in the area so that we can offer more slots to the National Team Championships each year.

The main reason is that this is a National Rule. The others I mentioned are just a few of the many other reasons teams must remain active. I hope that helps to clarify.

---
Robert Sherrill
919-449-8400
