APA players, Phillip Johnson (pictured left) & Skip Wade (pictured right), died yesterday following a robbery at the store that Phillip owned in Cedar Grove. Skip has been a long time APA member (since 2003) & captain of the APA team, Top Dawg, that has played out of both M&M Billiards & Oscar's "Q" & Bar. Phillip joined the APA on Skip's team in 2008. Top Dawg won the 2010 Summer Session 9-Ball City Tournament and participated in the APA National Team Championships in Las Vegas in August of 2011. APA would like to offer our condolences to their families and friends. You will both be missed dearly. RIP.

Are you at the point that you don't care about winning a patch and don't even get it from the DR if you do win it? Well here is another option for you.......APA is going to give away coupons for an entry into a drawing for a trip to Vegas if you have a rackless night, 8 on the break, 8 break & run, 9 on the break, or 9 break & run. So, you have two options if you earn a patch......you can either get the patch from the DR OR you can get a coupon for an entry into the drawing for a trip to Las Vegas during the APA National Team Championships (flight & hotel for 4 days/3 nights). The number of entries in unlimited - you just have to earn them in the matches you play. If you choose the coupon instead of the patch, fill out the coupon that night with the required information and turn the coupon in with your team's scoresheet so that it can be validated. See more details for the in By-Law #35. The number of trips to Vegas that are given away will be dependent upon the number of coupons/entries received by APA, but we anticipate at least one per session. But don't worry.......if you don't want the coupon for the entry into a drawing for a trip to Vegas, you can still get a patch.

Please remember to mark all defensive shots that are played by both players participating in an APA match. Defense is about the intention of the shot; it does not have to be successful for it to be marked as a defensive shot. If the player was NOT attempting to make a ball (play offense), then the player was playing defense and it should be marked accordingly. The scorekeeping you do in league is calculating the handicaps of your opponents, so please help us ensure that they are handicapped appropriately by correctly keeping score and marking defensive shots. In addition to marking defensive shots, Nationals is also now requiring teams to total and circle the number of defensive shots played in a match for each player and also mark the scoresheet with "No DS" if no defensive shots were played by a player. This will be a requirement with respect to filling out a scoresheet completely for earning bonus points. Take the first few weeks and get used to this additional aspect of scorekeeping. It will begin to affect bonus points on Week 5 of the session. See the diagram below for details:
